Work Study Program

Work Study students are an essential part of the function of Arrowmont during workshop sessions. These positions provide much needed support to the full-time kitchen staff through food preparations, dishwashing and clean up. Work duties may also include grounds maintenance, library and technological support, art supply store and housekeeping.

Since previous art experience is not necessary for work-study positions, this is a great way to learn new skills, gain confidence artistically and make life-long friends working in a fun environment.

You will receive one week of class for each 45-50 hour week of work duty or one weekend of class for one weekend of work. The week you are in class, you will be expected to work up to 22 hours and 8 hours during a weekend class. Course fee for your weeks of class as well as room and board for the length of your commitment is provided by Arrowmont. Please note that work-study positions are physically demanding and require that applicants be able to lift 50 pounds. Class lab fees and other art supplies are the responsibility of the student. Classes are awarded based on availability. The minimum commitment is two-weeks with a preference given to applicants of four weeks or longer.

Arrowmont considers individuals who are mature, team oriented, self-motivated and interested in the arts. Enthusiasm and commitment are required. Students must arrive the Friday prior to their session and stay through the Sunday after their last session. If it is past the application deadline, please contact Arrowmont to see if positions are still available.

Educational assistance is provided to the student-employee as part of the Work Study program. As an employee of Arrowmont and for the convenience of Arrowmont, meals and lodging are provided on Arrowmont premises and must be accepted by the student-employee as a condition of their employment.

Students may apply for either the Work Study or Studio Assistantship, but not both.
