“No history would be complete without mentioning [the Settlement School’s] charter membership in the Southern Highland Handicraft Guild. The first Craftsman’s Fair, sponsored by this group, was held on the Pi Beta Phi grounds in 1948.” (A Century of Friendship in Pi Beta Phi: 1867 – 1967, 1968)
The original fair was held over a four-day period, and featured 25 Appalachian craft demonstrations. Today, the Southern Highland Craft Guild continues to hold annual Fairs twice a year in Asheville, North Carolina, with over 200 demonstrators and presenters.
