Fiber Arts Day

Fiber artists and textile enthusiasts: Please join us on Saturday, March 1st from 12-5PM for a Fiber Arts Day in conjunction with our new exhibition, Common Threads, currently on display in the Sandra J. Blain Gallery on the Arrowmont campus. This exhibition celebrates weaving and spinning in East Tennessee on the centennial of the Arrowcraft weaving program in Gatlinburg.

This event will include a tour of the exhibition, a slideshow of images from local weaving history presented by Frances Fox Shambaugh, and a talk by weaver and coverlet expert Cassie Dickson, whose work is featured in the gallery.

About Cassie Dickson: A heritage member of the Southern Highland Craft Guild, Cassie Dickson specializes in spinning, natural dyeing and the traditional art of coverlet and linen weaving.  With a passion for preserving historical craftsmanship, Cassie grows flax and processes the fiber into linen.  She has raised silkworms for the past 34 years, processing the silk cocoons to silk fabric, an interesting story of our country’s history.  Her work is dedicated to preserving the traditions of the past.
