Workstudy

Workstudy opportunities are available in Summer & Fall. Each program session lasts six weeks. Workstudy students spend three weeks participating in National Workshops and three weeks in service to Arrowmont. It is essential for those applying to commit to the entire six-week session for which they are selected.

Summer Session 1: May 21 – July 4, 2026
Summer Session 2: July 9 – Aug 22, 2026
Fall Session:  Sept 24 – Nov 7, 2026

Workstudy students will spend three weeks participating in National Workshops. During this time, no work hours are required.

Workshop assignments are awarded based on availability and in consultation with the workstudy student before arriving to campus. Fees associated with instructor-required materials for workshops will be covered due to a generous grant, up to $250/workshop. Any balances above that limit or outside of the scope of Arrowmont-approved covered materials are to be paid weekly in the supply store. Failure to pay said materials fees will forfeit participation in future workshops.

Workstudy students will spend three weeks in service of Arrowmont. During service weeks, students will work 40 hours per week in some of the most active spaces on campus. Workstudy students will be assigned roles based on their individual skills and previous work experience. The placement areas include the culinary, hospitality, and supply store departments. Some nights and weekends will be required. Depending on work assignments, workstudy students may have a different schedule than fellow cohort members. Each workstudy may cross-over into other departments on occasion so flexibility in tasks is required.

Participants are required to live on campus for the duration of their student employment. Dormitory-style housing (4-8 beds) is provided, and a shared living space and coin-operated laundry are available on-site. Pets are not permitted.

Meals will be provided by Arrowmont Sunday evening through Friday afternoon. Meals are included while workshops are in session.

Participant travel, material fees over $250 and other art supplies, as well as meals when workshops are not in-session (Friday dinner through Sunday dinner) are the responsibility of the student-employee.

Arrowmont considers individuals who are mature, team oriented, self-motivated, and interested in the arts. High energy, collaboration, and communication skills are required for all positions. Each workstudy may cross-over into other departments on occasion so flexibility in tasks is required. The ability to lift 50 pounds is required for all positions.

The workstudy program at Arrowmont is ideal for artists wanting to expand their artistic network, boost creativity, and try new things. All applicants should be interested in developing job skills on campus as they take workshops, network with industry professionals, and interact with like-minded artists from all over the country.

Well-suited participants also adopt a sense of artistic curiosity. Unlike an artist residency, our diversity of course offerings means that workstudy students may take classes in unfamiliar materials and methods. An openness to media investigation and learning new processes is ideal for taking advantage of this program’s many benefits.
