Metals Artist-in-Residence Maia Leppo interviews Sage Perrott – Arrowmont instructor and printmaker. Sage brought her sister, Bryn Perrott as her assistant making a powerhouse sister duo. Sage taught “Colorful Consistency: Multi-Layered Screenprinting” during week 4 of the summer session, June 19-25 2016.
What is something you learned about yourself or your practice at Arrowmont?
I was here for the Pentaculum in January, and I have been really grateful for the opportunity to work with a group of excited, dedicated artists. Before I came here, I didn’t know how intoxicating the energy of other working artists could be. It really allows me to comfortably step outside my usual boundaries.
What is your connection to craft?
I’m a printmaker—so even in academia, I think, printmakers tend to roll with the other crafts people. I spend a lot of time making screenprints, and a lot of time honing my “craft.”

Sage Perrott lives in Logan, Utah and teaches at Utah State University. She has a BFA in printmaking from West Virginia University and an MFA from Ohio University. Her artwork features grumpy, lumpy, ghost-like creatures situated in cramped, often humorous circumstances. She will be teaching at Penland School of Crafts later this summer.
