Carve and Weave: Handmade Tools for Fiber Art

Allie Dudley & Nikki Reese・Woodcarving & Fibers・Summer Legacy July 12-17, 2026

Workshop Description

This workshop combines two useful skills, carving and weaving, to create unique fiber art using handmade tools. Students will begin by learning how to carve a rigid heddle (a small, portable loom used for weaving bands) and a shuttle from basswood using simple carving tools. Then, students will use their newly carved pieces to weave functional and decorative bands for use as straps, shoelaces, and more. This workshop is open to all levels, and no prior weaving or carving experience is required.
