Workshop Description

In this dynamic workshop, students will explore a variety of surface design techniques to create whimsical illustrations on clay. Open to all skill levels, beginners welcome, this workshop will focus on sgraffito, Mishima, and monoprinting. Students will work with red clay, white slip, and underglazes to create designs both before and after the bisque firing. Techniques will be demonstrated on slabs, which students will then finish with wire for hanging. Students will go home with multiple finished wall hangings and a comprehensive understanding of these versatile decorative techniques.

Artist Bio

Allie Stack is a studio potter based in Asheville, North Carolina, who grew up in Connecticut inspired by her mother’s cooking and a lifelong passion for drawing. She discovered clay in high school and went on to receive her BFA in Ceramics from the Maine College of Art in 2016. Her functional pottery explores the whimsical nature of everyday life through painterly illustrations, which reflect her love for doodling. Stack’s professional development includes being a visiting artist at the prestigious Archie Bray Foundation in Montana and The Clay Studio in Philadelphia.
