Workshop Description

In this workshop, discover the art of traditional bark basket weaving. Students will learn how to use natural bark materials, shape and weave sturdy baskets, and explore all the techniques and skills needed to create a natural piece of art. A variety of organic colors and natural materials will be provided to help shape your final basket. Students are encouraged to bring their own beads, or other natural materials to incorporate into their baskets as time permits. Guided step-by-step through the process, in a few short days, you’ll create your own unique handmade basket while connecting with nature and learning sustainable crafting techniques!

Artist Bio

Max Hendry is a full-time artisan and instructor of historic handcraft, specializing in brooms and basketry, with a focus on working with natural, ecologically harvested, renewable materials. With decades of experience as a professional teacher of fine and performing arts in private, public, and magnet schools, Max travels across the country, teaching all levels and ages of students from beginner to advanced, ages 3 to 93. He is director and resident artist for MHcrafted in Blue Ridge, Georgia.
