Workshop Description

This ceramic workshop offers students the opportunity to immerse themselves in wheel throwing and decoration. Open to all skill levels, this workshop is designed to be fun while also expanding technical skills. Students will explore foundational wheel throwing before adding expressive character through texture, drawing, and altering shapes. This workshop emphasizes developing personal expression while reflecting the practical, durable, and distinctive aesthetic of mountain craft, ensuring students leave with an expanded vocabulary of altering and decorating methods, and a unique body of work that honors this rich legacy.

Artist Bio

Buie Hancock has been throwing pottery since 1982. She graduated from the University of Tennessee with a Bachelor’s degree with honors, majoring in ceramics. She opened Buie Pottery in Gatlinburg, TN upon graduation in 1986. She has been creating artistic and functional pottery for enthusiastic fans across the globe focusing mainly on high fired stoneware but loves to dabble in lowfire clay.
