1954
This year marked the first proposal at the Pi Beta Phi National Convention to create a permanent, year-round craft school.

“The Summer Craft Workshop was started ten years ago…It has accomplished many thing. First, year-round use is made of the plant; further impetus is given to the arts and crafts program which was started long ago. Outstanding instructors from all over the country attract craftsmen to the Workshop, Pi Phis, students and folks in search of a hobby….The committee wants both actives and alumnae to help ‘holler’ about the wonderful privileges made possible at Summer Workshop.” – Virginia Brackett Green, Chairman of the Settlement School Committee
Settlement School director, Ruth Dyer, retired, to be replaced by Marian Webb Mueller, former manager of Arrowcraft.
