Arrowmont Connections – Richard W. James to host Facebook Live artist reception

Arrowmont is a special community full of creative people – a family who know that coming together and making art is important. We talk a lot about the Arrowmont Experience – connecting through craft and community. That connection exists beyond physical proximity. It is in shared memories and new ideas. It lives in the friendships we make with each other. It grows when we learn and support one another.

Whether on campus or off, we are connected as members of the Arrowmont family. Over the next few weeks, we are going to share stories from our community of instructors, residents, and students in a new series, Arrowmont Connections.

Richard W. James grew up in rural Tennessee and received his BFA from the University of Tennessee at Martin and his MFA in ceramics from the University of Kansas in 2016, where his thesis work received the 2016 Sculpture Magazine Outstanding Student Achievement in Contemporary Sculpture Award. He has been a summer artist-in-residence at Zhenrutang in Jingdezhen (2015), China, a long-term resident at Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts in Gatlinburg, Tennessee (2016) and a long-term resident at the Archie Bray Foundation in Helena, Montana (2017-19). He is currently assistant professor of sculpture at Texas A&M Corpus Christi. richardwjames.com

Last summer, Richard taught The Ceramic Figure Dissected, a two-week workshop on figurative clay sculpture.

Today on Arrowmont Connections, we share former Artist-in-Residence and Arrowmont instructor, Richard W. James, who will be live on Facebook Friday, April 10, 2020 at 4:00 pm at the Rockport Center for the Arts for an online exhibition reception and artist Q&A. Click here to participate!
