Arrowmont Connections: Trent Bosch remote interactive demonstration, “Decorative Utility Bowls”

Arrowmont is a special community full of creative people – a family who know that coming together and making art is important. We talk a lot about the Arrowmont Experience – connecting through craft and community. That connection exists beyond physical proximity. It is in shared memories and new ideas. It lives in the friendships we make with each other. It grows when we learn and support one another.

Whether on campus or off, we are connected as members of the Arrowmont family. Over the next few weeks, we are going to share stories from our community of instructors, residents, and students in a new series, Arrowmont Connections.

Trent Bosch has been woodturning professionally for 25 years and earned his BFA from Colorado State University. His work is displayed in numerous fine art galleries, the permanent collections of museums and craft centers and in many private collections worldwide. Bosch has taught and demonstrated his techniques for turning and sculpting wood throughout the U.S. and abroad.

Trent is an Arrowmont instructor and is now offering remote, interactive demonstrations in lieu of in-person workshops.

He write about his personal remote demos, ‘[These] allow you to learn from the comfort of your own shop or home. I’ll take you through the process of learning new techniques step by step. Each session has a specific topic, and dates to let you choose what you are interested in. Each session is open to anybody, all you need to do is register, in this small group setting you are able to ask questions and interact with me and the group.

On April 28, 2020, Trent is offering “Decorative Utility Bowls,” from 12 – 2 pm EST.

He writes, “In this session I rough turn a bowl from green wood, discuss drying techniques including kiln drying and building your own kiln as well as very simple and basic techniques.  Then I re-turn a dry bowl using specially ground tools to get as clean a cut as possible to cut down on sanding.  I will then take that bowl and discuss and use lots of different decorative techniques including: carving techniques, bleaching, dying, painting, burning, sand blasting, and surface textures.
