Geoffrey A. Wolpert Gallery
A solo exhibition by artist Katja Toporski, SpaceTime showcases contemporary necklaces and brooches made with porcelain, silver, and 3-D printed acrylic pieces. Her work combines both references to the beginning of human existence and examples of significant human quests. “Each object brings its own mysteries to the piece; as a combination they compose a story of human endeavors over time, as jewelry they inhabit their own contemporary location” says Toporski.
Born in Frankfurt, Germany, Katja Toporski is a jewelry maker, professor and writer living just outside of Washington DC. Her work is informed by philosophical thinking, and juxtaposes archetypal objects and elements to explore the limitations of our understanding of things. Her work has been shown in numerous exhibitions across the United States as well as internationally, and has been highlighted in a number of print and online publications, most recently in the 2016 edition of Exhibition in Print by Metalsmith Magazine.
