Mary Todd Beam didn’t like this canvas when she first bean. But through her application of a fresh perspective and masterful painting techniques, she transformed “Reaching Out” into the piece you see today. It became the imagery for the back cover of her book, The Creative Edge. In this dynamic painting, light washes of cream and lavender frame a dark blue and black center. A hooded, serene figure emerges in the center-left of the composition, ephemeral and blending into the shapes and colors behind.
