Arrowmont Craft and Culture Fellow, John Polly, specializes in revealing inner beauty in raw wood. He also revives old wood pieces, transforming them by hand into new creations. For this distinctive table, Polly used the original entry doors to Arrowmont’s Emma Harper Turner Building. The tabletop surface includes the birchwood door and original glass glazing. Polly added yellow poplar to the base and legs and trimmed the table in walnut. Inset into the shadowbox created by the window glass, Polly added spalted maple, walnut, and yellow poplar pieces in an abstract mountain landscape. The table is finished in food- and beverage-safe polyurethane. This work is both a unique piece of Arrowmont’s history and a one-of-a-kind creation for your home that will last for generations.
