Artist Bio
Jan Quarles
Jan Quarles, of What Nature Leaves, is a long-time fiber artist who works with the beauty of the natural world. She has worked with fiber and color for more than 30 years as a knitter, spinner, dyer, sewer, and weaver. Today, she is a botanical printer, an indigo dyer, and a practitioner of shibori and katazome who deeply loves the blue magic of indigo. Quarles had a solo show of her indigo and botanical prints in Nashville in 2022 and has a botanical flag in an international exhibit. She has studied with many teachers at Arrowmont, Penland and other craft venues domestically and internationally. A former journalist and professor of mass communication in the United States and overseas, she has always practiced her fiber arts in the hours that were her own.
