Trustina Fafa Sabah, gourd artist from Ghana, uses carving, wood burning, patina work and mixed media among other techniques to turn beautiful works of nature – gourds, or calabashes – into exquisite bowls, vases, lamps. She created “My Tulip Garden” exclusively for the Starry Night 2022 Auction. In daylight, this piece is a colorful and intricate sculpture depicting tulips on the cusp of blooming, surrounded by bands of pinpoints like fields of pollen. In the darkness, the gourd lights up, illuminating the flowers and points like a constellation in a field of stars.
