Peter Dellert creates sculptures using old and reclaimed farm and construction tools. “Pocket Scythe” is part of his New Paradym Tool Company collection. This work utilizes legacy tools for manual labor which Dellert has salvaged and collected. The scythe in this sculpture was refitted with a new, surprising, and elaborate wood handle, laboriously laminated and bent into a mirroring curve. This changes the tool into seeming “non-functional, absurd and surrealistic.” Deceptively simple, “Pocket Scythe” is a bold statement on the future of labor in the age of automation, and the strength of craftsmanship employed by Dellert in its creation.
