Artist Bio
Preetika Rajgariah
Preetika Rajgariah is a multidisciplinary artist based in Houston, Texas, whose work uses culturally specific materials to examine the nuanced intersections of cultural and queer identity, belonging and otherness, and consumption and erasure, often referencing her upbringing as an Indian-born, Texas-raised American. Her multimedia practice has been shaped by installations at prominent venues such as Women & Their Work, Art League Houston, and a large-scale public art commission at Rice University, as well as performances at the Asia Society Texas and Untitled Art Fair Miami. Rajgariah is a recipient of both an Artadia Award and an Idea Fund grant in 2021, and her work has been reviewed in the Brooklyn Rail. She holds an MFA from the University of Illinois Urbana Champaign and has completed residencies at institutions including the Houston Contemporary Craft Center, the Golden Foundation, the Momentary at Crystal Bridges, and Oxbow School of Art.

Explore the Textiles Studio
Located on the second floor of the Turner Building, the Textile Studio looks out over a sunny hill towards the Wood Building and downtown Gatlinburg. A bright and spacious space equipped for all things fabric and textiles, the workshop rotation in this space is as diverse and wide-reaching as the students and artists that populate our campus. A peaceful atmosphere with intimate corners for quiet sewing and contemplation give way to joy and laughter when the room is filled with the repetitive whir of the sewing machine or the plop of a freshly dipped garment in a vat of dye.
