Q&A
Are you currently in school? If so, where and what is your major?
I graduated from Ohio University in spring of 2024! I got my bachelor’s degree from the Media Arts and Production program. I also obtained a Social Media Certificate.
What drew you to apply for the Visions Internship?
My grandmother and mother originally brought my attention to the Visions Internship application. Both are educators and creatives, each of whom contributed to my own artistic streak in different ways! They each had enriching experiences with Arrowmont’s legacy program as well. Upon looking further into the goals of the ArtReach program, I was thrilled to see the community engagement portion of the project. The position also aligned with the experience I had during my studies, so I was really drawn to try and apply my knowledge to something I feel quite passionate about!

What do you hope to achieve during your internship?
I deeply believe in the mission of the ArtReach program. I think Appalachian craft, history, and culture are so important to preserve in the youth of the region. Creativity and craft allow tradition to be passed on and interpreted in new ways by current and future generations. Being involved in this effort, even in small ways, is such an honor. I intend to both document and contribute to this effort by applying my personal skillsets. I also adore being a part of a team so working collaboratively with others is hugely exciting for me.
What are you most excited about in this role?
I am a big hands-on type of person when it comes to projects. Being able to physically travel to locations and interact with the communities there through creativity and art, both which I love very much, is the part that I look forward to the most. Getting out in the world and making an impact is an amazing opportunity.

Are you a creative? If so, what medium/media do you work with?
Creating and trying as many mediums as I can is a constant in my life. The process of making is something I hold close to my heart. I do primarily 2D art like painting, drawing, and graphic/tattoo design. But I also make jewelry, video/film, makeup arts, clothing customization, and occasional 3D sculptures. I always have some kind of project going on!

What are your future aspirations?
In no particular order, I want to dive further into the art of tattooing, and expand my skillset with film/screenwriting, focus on more jewelry-making, as well as continue an extraterrestrial-themed painting collection I’ve been working on! As far as career goals are concerned, I would love to continue to pursue either creative or community-building projects. Seeing an idea come to fruition or facilitating people to come together over a shared goal is a fulfilling gift to be a part of.
What’s your favorite thing about campus so far?
The sense of community here on campus is really something special. Everyone here is so kind and informed. Despite being new, I never felt like an odd one out! Being surrounded by creatives that are willing to discuss their craft is so inspirational and undoubtedly has already helped me improve my own approach.
What’s next, where are you headed after the internship ends?
I am hoping my experience from this internship can springboard me into other similar opportunities, as I am enjoying this one very much! I would like to work professionally in a collaborative environment. Being able to share efforts with a team is ideal for me. I’m sure my next steps will become clearer for me as I continue to navigate this program, but I plan to follow where work takes me!
