Collecting and Fabricating Landscapes

July 19 - 24, 2026
Open to All Skill Levels
Sculpture, Mixed Media, Furniture, Special Topics

Overview

In this workshop, students will build sculptural collages that fuse concept with careful making, focusing on constructed landscapes that feel both epic and ordinary. We will look to the Smokies and the Arrowmont grounds, then widen the lens to include human-made terrain, symbolic landscapes that map belief and memory, dreamscapes, and the GPS logic of routes and grids. Working from materials gathered by the hundreds or thousands, students will practice craft-forward methods for sorting, pairing, and composing, then learn reliable techniques for joining, reinforcing, and finishing using methods like tying, stitching, wiring, riveting, layering, and building stable supports. Emphasis is placed on material sensitivity, structural clarity, and clean, intentional detail as each student constructs a series of personal, memory-charged vistas. Students may bring their own collections or work from shared materials provided.

Course Fee : $760.00

Scholarships & Material Fees

Need help covering workshop costs? Arrowmont offers financial aid opportunities to broaden access to our arts and craft programs. We believe a diverse community enriches the learning experience for all.

Material fees are not included in our national workshop costs, but are included with the cost of our winter short workshops. A material list with estimated costs will be emailed about 30 days before the national workshop begins.

Artist Bio
Leticia Bajuyo
An interdisciplinary artist and object maker based in Oklahoma, Leticia Bajuyo creates drawings, sculptures, installations, and public art that highlight crafted materiality, collected stories, and community engagement. Her interest in unpacking value perceptions finds its roots in her autobiography growing up bi-racial in a small town named Metropolis on the border of Illinois and Kentucky. The time and space of quiet landscapes outside and the multi-national dialogues inside her family’s house influenced the development of her critiques of consumer capitalism, fickle domestic desires, and internalized pressures of assimilation. Leticia is an Assistant Professor of Sculpture at the University of Oklahoma. She earned an MFA at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville and a BFA at the University of Notre Dame. In addition to exhibitions of her individual artworks, Bajuyo seeks community and welcomes collaboration by participating in artist collectives including the Filipinx Artists of Houston, Land Report Collective, and Project Vortex.
