Artist Bio
Lynda Ray
Lynda Ray is a painter living and working in Richmond, Virginia. She received a BFA from the Massachusetts College of Art in 1987 and that same year attended the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture, where she notably studied under Agnes Martin and Joseph Campbell. She often references Martin’s idea that “perfection is in the mind.” As an artist, Lynda was one of the early participants in the re-emergence of encaustic painting in the 1980s. She now brings her expertise to workshops throughout the country, facilitating them with a learner-focused, hands-on approach. Her goal is to help artists discover new ways of working and further their individual painting ideas through experimentation.

Explore the Sculpture Studio
Located on the second floor of the Turner Building, the Sculptural Studio is steps from our Library & Resource Center and next to the Sandra J. Blain Galleries. The flexible nature of this studio makes it ideal for multimedia and sculpture classes where different types of media are being used. Adjacent to the Metals Studio our enamel classes and cold work, glass techniques are often taught in this space, allowing for a free flow of tools and equipment between the two workshops.
