Wood Fire with Expressive Mono-print Underglaze Transfers

June 29 - July 11, 2025
Intermediate
Clay

Overview

This two week workshop will incorporate throwing techniques, and surface decoration using mono-print transfers. Students will use Speedball underglazes to expressively make work ready to wood fire in the train kiln. The instructor will demonstrate throwing bottles, flasks, and tea-pots, on the wheel and off the hump and have students explore throwing or hand-building some of these more advanced forms with clay. Students will be encouraged to utilize inspiration from the land, a memory, or a person, to create wonderful mono-print transfers using underglazes. Students in this workshop should have some experience with throwing or hand-building and an interest in surface treatments and painting.  It is recommended to arrive to the workshop with some cone 10 bisque ware ready to glaze.
