Artist Bio
Turiya Gross-Torres
Turiya Gross-Torres is a ceramic artist whose relationship with the arts began with a childhood spent being home-schooled by a musician duo in Mexico. Her work is deeply informed by her surroundings there, particularly the prevalent Talavera blue and white brushwork decoration. With 16 years of experience, she began her ceramics education at a non-profit craft community in Upstate New York, continuing in California and currently in Taos, New Mexico. Trained by a master Turkish brushwork artist, Turiya has developed her own decorative style that primarily uses slips and wax resist renditions. She has taught classes at a community studio and the Sonoma Community Center in California, and later at the Taos Ceramics Center in New Mexico. She currently works in Taos as part of a team of five potters under Logan Wannamaker. Her latest work is fired in an Anagama wood kiln.
