Artist Bio
Lynnette Hesser & Steve Loucks
Lynnette Hesser (former Adjunct Instructor of Art) and Steve Loucks (Professor Emeritus in Ceramics at Jacksonville State University) are full-time ceramic artists who work together in their studio in Wellington, AL. Both received their MFAs in Ceramics, Steve from the New York College of Ceramics at Alfred University and Lynnette from University of Florida. Each has been awarded the Alabama State Council on the Arts Fellowship in Crafts grant twice. They have exhibited many times with the American Craft Council Atlanta Show and the Southern Highland Craft Guild. Steve wrote and Lynnette edited, “Glazes From a Potter’s Perspective”. They conduct workshops both individually and together and exhibit their work nationwide. Steve has also been a Glaze Doctor, Topical Group Discussion Leader, Panel Moderator, and lecturer at NCECA.
Lynnette’s work involves delicate carving and reticulation of floral and geometric designs on her porcelain and white stoneware pieces while her sculptures explore large individual flowers or mushroom and coral clusters. Steve alters, assembles, and embellishes his wheelthrown white stoneware forms; then, he layers multiple glazes on a Shino base for most of his cone 10 reduction work and uses his runny glazes on his cone 6 artwork.
