Artist Bio
Kolin James Schmidt
Kolin James Schmidt is a furniture maker and educator currently based in Eastern New Hampshire. He has extensively studied 17th through 19th century furniture building methods, learning to efficiently incorporate modern machine techniques with traditional hand tools to produce the highest possible quality wooden objects. He holds degrees in Furniture Making from The North Bennet Street School and architecture from Kirkwood Community College. His work is informed by the desire for skillful execution, rather than lavish adornment, to be the primary source of a piece's beauty. Kolin is most excited by work made out of necessity rather than desire, and the traits he works to put into every piece are strong lines, perfect functionality, and generational longevity.
