Overview

This workshop offers a way to explore various woodworking techniques through the creation of a unique sculptural light fixture. Students will learn basic woodworking skills necessary in a typical woodshop, alongside very basic electrical wiring for a light source. This workshop will also cover specialized techniques such as bent lamination and coopering (a technique typically used in barrel making). By the end of the workshop, students will leave with a finished, functional piece of sculptural lighting that showcases their technical exploration.

Artist Bio

Naomi Russo

Naomi David Russo is a woodworker and furniture designer who creates sculptural furniture and is currently based in Brooklyn, NY. She received her BFA in Woodworking and Furniture Design from Maine College of Art in 2019 and was an Artist-in-Residence at Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts from 2021-2022. Naomi currently fabricates furniture and lighting at Peg Woodworking. In her Brooklyn studio practice, she continues to experiment with various woodworking techniques, including coopering and bent lamination.
