Sculptural Segmented Power-Carving

August 9 - 14, 2026
Open to All Skill Levels
Sculpture, Furniture, Wood

Overview

This workshop will lead students through building, shaping, and texturing wood to create their own personalized, dinner table-sized centerpiece vessel. Students will learn a specialized coopering-like glue-up method, a fun alternative that uses tape and rubber bands instead of traditional clamps to assemble many smaller pieces of wood from a flat board. To explore more organic and free-form shapes, this workshop will provide hands-on instruction in how to safely and properly use a variety of tools. This includes hand shaping tools (gouge, rasp, file, scraper) and power carving tools (angle grinder, die grinder, jointer, circular saw, band saw). Students will leave this workshop having created a unique, structurally complex, and personally textured vessel.
