Artist Bio
Tom Haney
Tom Haney is a kinetic figurative artist based in Black Mountain, North Carolina, who has been creating his signature mechanical sculptures since 1994. Haney believes in the magical transformation that occurs when mechanical movement brings a static figure to life, drawing the viewer in to interpret the conveyed story. He approaches his work as a way to reconnect with the past, cherishing traditional techniques, old tools, and the enduring value of working with one's hands. Operating as an independent artist focused on commissioned work, Haney has exhibited in galleries across the country, and his unique work can be found in collections throughout the US, the UK, and Europe.

Explore the Wood Studio
With a dedicated building to all things wood, the John Jordan Wood Building, it should come as no surprise that our wood workshops have developed a bit of a reputation for being the best of the best. A dedicated woodturning studio, machine room, and woodworking studio offer a wide range of equipment and options for students and instructors alike. From woodturning to furniture making, greenwood appliques to carving, the sky is the limit for what our wood workshops can do.
